| els Catalans Technically part of Spain, Catalunya is bounded on the east by the Mediterranean Sea, on the north by France and Andorra, and on the west and south by the Spanish regions of Aragon and Valencia. This autonomous nation possesses notable geographical diversity within a relatively small area. Catalunya has more than 7 million inhabitants (Catalans) all contributing to a very unique culture; with its own government, language, traditions, architecture and cuisine. The internationally known city of Barcelona is its capital. “Upon taking my first two trips to Catalunya in 2008, it became apparent that I was photographing an intriguing and culturally rich area of the world. Cultural pride is very evident simply by walking the streets and listening to locals speak. Historically, Catalans have had to fight to keep their identity. I was most fascinated by their creative window displays and intricate wrought iron work on their balconies." The exhibition for this series was inspired by the manner in which I saw artists in el Raval display their work. see Installation Photos Tècnicament part d’Espanya, Catalunya limita a l'est amb la Mediterrània, al nord amb França i Andorra, i a l'oest i al sud amb les comunitats autònomes d'Aragó i València. És un país d’una diversitat geogràfica molt marcada, contingut en un territori relativament reduït. Catalunya té més de set milions d'habitants (catalans) que formen una identitat cultural característica, amb el seu propi govern, llengua, tradicions, arquitectura i cuina. La ciutat de Barcelona, reconeguda internacionalment, n’és la capital. "Després de viatjar dos cops a Catalunya l'any 2008, se’m va fer evident que estava fotografiant una àrea del món intrigant i culturalment molt rica. Passejant pels seus carrers i escoltant la gent es fa palès l’orgull que senten els catalans per la seva cultura i tradicions. Històricament, els catalans han hagut de lluitar per defensar i mantenir la seva identitat. Vaig quedar fascinat per la creativitat dels aparadors dels comerços i la complexitat de les balconades de ferro forjat." L'exposició d'aquesta col.lecció estava inspirada en la manera en que els artistes del Raval penjen les seves obres. |
